Question:

A Medical Writer drafts content for various formats within the professional medical press on behalf of clients, such as special publications, online physician platforms, newsletters, or press releases. The core objective is to present medical-scientific content accurately, precisely, understandably, and in a manner tailored to the target audience. To do this, a Medical Writer must possess both sound knowledge of the data to be presented and an understanding of the client’s communication strategy. Creativity is also crucial for developing strong messages that resonate with the respective target group.

Question:

Unlike what one might imagine, my work isn’t solely about writing texts. Before I can even begin writing, I gather a brief – including content/topics, project timelines, and critical deadlines – during internal and client calls. Once a first draft is ready, I first align it with the team and then with the client. Managing the approval process, and if necessary, coordinating with publishers, is also part of my responsibilities.

Question:
While I also engage in advisory capacities and am in close contact with clients, my focus is clearly on writing.
Question:
A scientific education or a medical background is certainly helpful. At the very least, one should be comfortable working with scientific data. Flawless spelling is, of course, a prerequisite, but linguistic talent is also essential.
Question:

I love combining my scientific background with target-group-specific writing in my daily work, and preparing complex information in an understandable way. Above all, it’s the variety – writing for different teams, products or indications, and across the most diverse formats – that I find truly engaging.
